A helpful organiser taking down signs at the end!
On 13 July 2011, Haslemere Border AC will host its Annual Gibbet Hill 10k race. You can download this years application form from the ‘Events’ section of the website.
The race features an early uphill climb for the first 3-4 miles from the start at St.Christophers Green. Initially runners travel along Bunch Lane for the first mile and then move onto trails leading up to the Gibbet Hill trig point and monument, taking in views of Hindhead Common. After the drinks station the descent begins with a steep finish down Farnham lane finishing on Lion Green.
Last years’ race was very well attended with 180 competitors crossing the finish line. The runners were treated to cooler conditions compared to the earlier heatwave conditions seen in June and early July.

There was also a team prize up for grabs which was strongly contended between neighbouring clubs Haslemere, Farnham and Guildford. Both Border and Farnham fielded 3 teams a piece. Farnham proved to be too strong for Border finishing with an accumulated points score of 200. Border were second with 289, and GGAC in 3rd with 324.
The 2o10 race saw the introduction of a special award named the “Chloe Piper Trophy” in memory of a much loved club mate who always wanted to run the Gibbet Hill 10K race. The trophy was awarded by Chloe’s Mother to Border’s first woman to finish, Jackie Field, who finished 62nd overall with a time of 47.43.
After the presentations Race organiser and Chaiman Dave Bateman thanked the race timekeepers, marshalls, and volunteers, bakers and St. John Ambulance for making the race a great success. Also many thanks to the Town Mayor Melanie O’Dell for starting the race and presenting the prizes along with Peter Jones from SportsLocker.
