Saturday 5th September proved to be a successful day out not only for our Seniors but also for our HBAC Junior team who managed to make it onto the podium and produce some excellent results.
In the 3km event 43 children between the ages of 9-12 years old took part. Representing the Border girls were Chloe Dellar, Rebecca Pennant, Isabella Croucher and Tiffany Read. Tiffany ran an excellent race overtaking rivals from some strong clubs and was not only the first Haslemere Border to cross the line but also the first female overall. She made running look very easy as she made her way over the finish line. She was closely followed by Isabella Croucher who again fought a good battle overtaking the competition and coming in 3rd girl overall. Next in were Rebecca Pennant and Chloe Dellar, finishing 8th and 15th respectively in the female category and still with smiles on their faces. All the girls made a superb effort and this was reflected in their great times, especially for a XC race.
The boys 3km race was represented by Danny Hamilton, James Davies and Sean Read. All three boys ran very strongly with James coming in first for the HBAC boys and 8th in the boys category, closely followed by Danny in 13th and Sean in 15th place. Sean had broken his toe two weeks previously so did very well to even take part and run such a great race.
The 1km race 5-8 year olds, was clearly a favourite with 70 children on the start line ( and a few eager parents holding the hands of the younger age group). Representing the girls were Sophie Croucher and Isabel Jennings. Sophie, who prefers sprinting and not endurance running, had her work cut out with some strong female runners ahead and put in a fantastic performance to come in 3rd girl and 9th overall. Isabel, who is new to the club and has been joining us for summer training sessions, ran equally as well and came in 9th girl , 24th overall. This was a terrific result from both girls.
In the boys team we had Ollie Hamilton, Emil Shearring and Henry Davies. All the boys did our club proud by coming in the top 11 of the boys category with Ollie narrowly missing a podium place by coming in 4th place for the boys . Emil, clearly taking after his parents after having watched them run earlier in the 10k finished the race in 10th position for the boys with a super fast sprint into the finish line looking very at ease. Henry followed close behind coming in 11th place.
It was great to see the juniors taking part and enjoying the races and having lots of fun cheering everyone on.
A small group of runners turned up this morning for the Pub Fun run and lunch that started and finished at The Mulberry in Chiddingfold. Thanks to Paul Fleming for taking one group out and for Steve Tucker and Cairon Pearson for navigating the 6 mile group, that turned into 7.5 miles. We had two new runners with us, Emma and Carly ,who have been easing themselves back into running and were only up to 4 miles until today. Well done to them both for having done that extra 3.5 miles and they were still smiling at the end and stayed for a drink.
If anyone wants to recommend a pub for the next fun run or knows some good routes they would like to share, please do contact a member of the social committee. Hope to see some new and old faces at the next one.
Not long now until Christmas... and the highlight of the Christmas season is surely the HBAC Christmas Party. This year we will be taking over The Georgian House hotel in Haslemere High Street.
