Haslemere Juniors see the sun in Stoke Park

The Haslemere Border AC Juniors were out in force at the second fixture of the Border League Cross Country competition in Guildford’s Stoke Park last Sunday. On a day which saw a welcome return of the sunshine after the overnight downpours, the HBAC athletes, together with colleagues from Emma MacReady's St Edmunds Running Club, aged from 7 to 15 took on 13 other clubs from Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire in eight categories over the course of the day.

First to lead the HBAC contingent home was last year’s series medal winner Emily (4th), supported by the remaining U9 Girls Sophie (6), Jemima (13), Delilah (36) and Imogen (38) giving a team position of 2nd. The U9 Boys of William (3rd), Thomas (29), Freddie (43) and Kyle (61) bettered their previous match score with a 6th place.

The U11 Girls were next up and despite missing their two top scorers from the previous match achieved 5th place with Zoe (19), Freya (32), Yasmin (34), Molly (38), Tabitha (39), Madelaine (40), Milly (45), Erin (50) and Ellen (65). The U11 Boys were very competitive in a traditionally strong field and chalked up a 4th place with an exhibition of paced running from Harry who came in 1st, supported by Josh (10), Toby (22), Sebastian (37), Ben (48), Arun (56) and Jacob (59)

The U13s Girls had a very good showing with Alice (29), Amy (35), Olivia (42), Isabella (58), Becky (60) and Chloe (64) grinding out a respectable 7th and saw the boys Jack W (9), Ethan (26), Jack S (33), Joshua (38) and Harry (53) improve on Match 1 with 5th place

Finally the U15 girls, Tiffany (18), Imogen (33) and boys, Max (18), Ben (23) despite not having enough athletes to comprise a fully scoring team achieved 8th and 7th respectively.

“I was very proud to be a part of the day” said Paul (HBAC Juniors Coach) who accompanied the teams. “There was an amazing team spirit and I was particularly pleased to see so many of our athletes in the older age groups, something we traditionally struggle to achieve”

Bring on the next race-at Reigate on the 5th February

Raise money for HBAC every time you shop

Dear All

Did you know that whenever you buy anything online - from your weekly shop to your annual holiday - you could be raising a free donation for Haslemere Border AC?

There are nearly 3,000 retailers on board ready to make a donation, including Amazon, John Lewis, Aviva, thetrainline and Sainsbury's – it doesn't cost you a penny extra!

We currently have 13 people signed up and we have so far raised over £40, if all our members signed up, we could raise £100s or even £1000s for our club

It's really simple, all you have to do is:

1. Join.
Head to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/hbac/ and sign up for free.

2. Shop.
Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first, pick the retailer you want and start shopping.

3. Raise.
After you’ve checked out, that retailer will make a donation to your good cause for no extra cost whatsoever!

There are no catches or hidden charges and even better, you will all benefit for your donations when the club has more money to spend on useful things like kit and your training experience.

happy shopping!

Subs Due for 2016/2017

2017 seems so long away doesn't it, but we are now at that time of year where we need to turn our minds to renewing our subscriptions with Haslemere Border AC. The club fees have been held at the same as last year and you can pay either via the fast track paypal service at www.hbac.co.uk/membership/  or with a cheque or cash to one of our coaches or in person at the AGM on the 15th. Contact me if you want to do a direct bank transfer.

A gold star to John Dickinson, Andy Wareham, Clair Wadey and Julia Tucker-shining examples to us all for being the first to renew this year, slapped wrist to me for not paying yet, I promise to do better

See you soon, hopefully not demanding money

Paul

Thank you to our Sport Relief helpers

Many thanks to all those members who turned out to help at the Waverley Sport relief mile event at Frensham last Saturday. I received an email from Tamsin McLeod, the leisure services manager:

"A huge thank you to your team for volunteering on Sunday and giving up your morning to help with the Waverley Sport Relief Mile. The event was a huge success, with over 360 participants, and we simply could not have organised it without the support of your club. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved.

Feedback received from the participants was fantastic and you made all the difference for their experience...If you have any feedback at all regarding the event please email Sally (via me) your comments, so that they can be incorporated for next time!"

The club also received a generous donation for your efforts (as well as the bacon rolls) so good news all round. Thanks again from me

Paul
