The 127th Alice Holt parkrun had just as much to do with the Great British Bake off as it did running; Steve Till reached his 250th parkrun and baked a massive chocolate and Smartie based offering, complemented by Jane Samways’ contribution in commemoration of her 50th parkrun. The icing on the cake in this bake fest was provided by Haslemere Border Athletic Club who supplied all of the volunteers this weekend as well as the contents of many local kitchens and supermarkets!
First over the line was Haslemere's Jon Fairs and local lady Sarah Hill (completing an Alice Holt parkrun hat trick) leading a field of 279 runners which was just a few short of last weeks Alice Holt parkrun record and included 66 new PBs and 43 first timers. Worthy of a special mention was Michael Walberton who also clocked up his 50th parkrun (sounds like more cake is coming) and the two Alice Holt regulars who took part in last week’s naked parkrun who sadly were not on hand to receive their celebratory bottles of bubbly; perhaps they caught a cold! There were more milestones reached by Paul Day, Suzanne Anderson and Janice McDonald now with 10 parkruns to their names, so congratulations to them, in five years time we could be celebrating their 250th anniversary and you heard it here first.
Finally it’s time for a round of self-indulgent thanks to all this weekend’s volunteers, and Haslemere Border Athletic Club who are organising the Gibbet Hill 10k which will take place on Wednesday the 8th July, for more info go to www.gibbet10k.co.uk Note that the course has a new start point but still includes the hill regulars to the race will all know and love! Special thanks to Rich (David Bailey) Taylor who has uploaded a whole stack of great photos to https://www.flickr.com/groups/aliceholt-parkrun/pool/richtaylor as well as many more to our website www.hbac.co.uk
Thank you to you all for such a great day!
