Cross Country Weekend 12/13 November.
Saturday 12th November you’re invited to take part in the Hampshire League event at Goodwood. There is no clash with Surrey League for this fixture so maybe some of the ladies not able to run on Sunday would like to have a crack at the ladies race at 13:35. Anyone is welcome to take part… you don’t have to be fast and I’m pretty confident… no one will be last… have a think about it anyway… no entry fees… just need to turn up with your club vest and trail shoes… If you don’t have a club vest yet… just ask Jackie, Paul or myself… and we can sell you a new one for £20…… or provide you with an “old style” vest to use.
Details of the Saturday race at Goodwood are below… let us know if you’d like to have a run. Newlyweds Mr and Mrs Spandley are aiming to be at both races this weekend… so come along and congratulate them if you can… and run of course ;o) Richard is on honeymoon this week… so if you have any questions on these races please contact Dave B.

1200 Under 13 Girls 3.0km
1215 Under 13 Boys 3.0km
1230 Under 15 Girls 4.0km
1250 Under 15 Boys 4.0km
1305* Under 17 Women 4.0km
1335* Senior Women (including Veteran and Under 20 Women) 6.0km
1410* Under 17 Men 6.0km
1430* Senior Men (including Veteran and Under 20 Men) 10.0kmSunday 13th November you’re invited to take part in the Todays Runner League event at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. This venue is also very close to us, South along the A3 to Horndean. http://www3.hants.gov.uk/qecp
The race starts at 11am, but we’re advised to line up early to observe the minutes silence for Remembrance Sunday. Once again… no entry fee… all you need is your club vest and trail shoes… We all run together, course distance is approximately 5 miles… and very similar terrain to our own Punchbowl, Gibbet, Blackdown etc… so yes… there are hills and mud involved ;o) Plus also some slippery chalk paths… I’m assuming its going to be wet… as it usually is for this race…. but it adds to the fun…
If you’d like more information on this race contact Jackie or myself.
Hope to see you at one or both of these events. Will be brilliant to see some of the new faces that have joined us during the summer.
Cheers
Dave

If you are rejected and wish to apply for a club place all you need to do is inform Dave Bateman or any other members of the committee and hand in your rejection letter. These places are placed in a draw.

Marathon Talk Magic Mile Challenge
Haslemere Border AC is pleased to support the Magic Mile Challenge currently being run by the friendly people at the Marathon Talk podcast (www.marathontalk.com)
One question that is asked of all people interviewed for the podcast is as follows:
If you had six months of perfect training, no injury or illness, and you were training specifically for the distance, how fast do you think you could run one mile in?
Well now we all have the chance to find out! We only have a few weeks to train and even more unfortunately HBAC cannot guarantee that you will not get the sniffles, but the coaches will be helping you to train towards this goal over the next few weeks and will then offer you the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is at a Marathon Talk Magic Mile Time Trial. We’ll be doing two of these on the 7th & 14th of August at 6pm.
Next steps are simple:1. Go to www.marathontalk.com & register for the Magic Mile Challenge (don’t worry, it’s free).2. Find the events on the HBAC facebook page and indicate which of the time trials you’ll attend to run your mile by clicking “I’m attending”3. Start training! Next time you see one of the coaches, mention to them that you are taking part and they will do as much as possible to help you get a couple more seconds off your time.4. Tell all of your friends and family – they are all welcome to come along and train for this / run the time trial – you may be able to help someone on their way to their first mile, or their fastest ever!5. Come and run your mile at one (or both) of the time trials6. Register your mile time at marathontalk.com before the 14th August.
In the meantime, keep an eye on our Facebook page and the news tab here on HBAC.co.uk as there are weekend speed sessions available to help everyone to be as speedy as they can be. Please note that participation is key to this event – it’s not only for speedsters it’s for everyone! -
Other Events
As well as the Surrey league, HBAC apply for places in the Surrey, Southern and National Cross country Championships. Look out for details in the newsletters and race fixtures and contact your team captain asking for a place in the team.

All routes return back at Duke of Cambridge for Lunch (optional)
Walkers, dogs, child welcome to join the group for lunch.LUNCH:
Please can you contact Janice Worsfold, if you are definitely having lunch so she can reserve the tables
WEATHER:
Outlook for Sunday http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2643743?day=2
Early rain clearing on Sunday, then sunny intervals and scattered showers on Sunday. 17mph winds and temperature range 8-10 degrees. So will feel cold.
ROUTES:
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=343958
All shorter routes are have been based on the 13mile route, which if you came on the last pub run from the Duke will know how beautiful this route is, don’t panic if you did participate last time, to keep it interesting we are doing it in reverse and adding on the extra miles around the Frensham ponds. Just to remind you , we run through some of the finest countryside Surrey has to offer us and take in the views from the Devils Jumps, stunning heath land beside the water in Frensham, Hankley Common and when the mist is low, the eerie army ranges… (don’t be afraid to pack your pocket camera in a waterproof bag)
These runs are designed to be fun and enjoyable and will accommodate the slowest runners in that group, all routes have been set by the coaches and will be familiar with the route and lead coaches will either have a map or gps unit or both or just know the route and area really well…. we are here to look after you and help you achieve your goals, so if you don’t normally run off road or like to go outside your comfort zone, this is a good time to do it in the safety of a group.
The above .tcx file is for downloading to your garmin.(other devices are available).. save it in your pc running flder, upload it to your gamin user profile (courses) and then transfer to device.
HOUSEKEEPING:
· Please make me aware of any medical conditions that I should know about – existing or past
· Check the weather before leaving and wear suitable clothing – the wind will make it feel colder, so, a light weight windproof will be a piece of useful kit
· Remember to Hydrate before the start of the run and fuel up, as a guide I generally suggest a minimum of an hour before intense exercise, but this varies from person to person
· You will need to rehydrate on the run, please take sufficient water, isotonic drinks, sports gels etc
· Avoid using new shoes, clothing etc on longer runs…break them in or get used to the new item first
· Have warm and dry clothing to change into after the run, your core temperature will be higher after the run and you will cool down quickly and will chill if your clothing is still damp or wet!
If you have any questions about the route or concerns please contact the coaches:
Andy, Becca, Julia or Dave
Hope you enjoy the your run… see you all on Sunday
Cheers
Andy

Surrey Ladies XC League fixture – Saturday, February 12 · 12:00pm
Our fourth and last match of this season will be on Wimbledon Common when our hosts will be Thames Hare & Hounds :-
The Race HQ is at the Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields (REMPF) pavilion on the A3 just north of the Robin Hood junction. Those coming by car should note the Race HQ can only be reached on the southbound carriageway of the A3 – if travelling from south to north, proceed north at the Robin Hood junction, leav…e the A3 at Stag Lane (ASDA) and make a U turn. The postcode for those using SATNAV is SW15 3PQ. There is limited car parking at Race HQ but cars can be parked in local streets in Vale Crescent (alongside the A3 on the left immediately after the Robin Hood footbridge). There is also parking at Robin Hood car park in Richmond Park (access via Kingston Gate and Roehampton Gate) with short walk via Robin Hood Gate (which is for pedestrians only) and over the footbridge.
The course starts on a grass playing field then goes into woodland of varying terrain (soft and harder woodland paths, sandy stretches and grassland) so any type of running shoe can be worn but obviously depends on the weather.
You must use the same numbers as previously allocated/used. For the most part, I have kept the race numbers, but if you took them home with you, please bring them with you, or let me know if you cannot, as I’ll make you a new one.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to run this race, whether you need a lift or are able to offer one to others.
Many Thanks
Amy

Please use the first car parks on your right as you go into the Country Park as the car park adjacent to the Leisure Centre cannot be used, nor can the Leisure Centre itself. This means using the car parks closest to the entrance/exit of the Park and no changing/refreshment facilities will be available.

Today’s Runner Fixtures
The Today’s Runner league is a Mixed league, and each team needs to consist of 3 women and 5 men. The runs are aimed at competitors who do not wish to run in pressured competitive league races. They are no more than 8K in length, and are multi-terrain, so that means, woodland trails, gravel paths, mud, water, etc. The races start at 11am on Sundays. There is no entry fee, all you need to do is show up with your club vest, “off road shoes” or “spikes” and run 5 miles, what could be a better way to spend a Sunday morning. If you would like details about these vents please contact us. The events are good fun, and the social side is excellent, £1 for a plate of food after the race, plus talk to other runners you beat in that sprint to the finish line.
Today’s runner fixtures start at 11am.

TODAY’S RUNNER WINTER LEAGUE 2010/2011 – RACE 5
Sunday, February 13 · 11:00am – 2:00pm, RACE 5 – MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK, HAMBLE
Please see below details of the 5th Today’s Runner League race to be held at Manor Farm CP (nr Southampton).
All you need to compete in this fixture is an HBAC vest and legs.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to run this race, whether you need a lift or are able to offer one to others. As you can see from the information below, car share is being encouraged

…
Many Thanks
AmyDirections:
The Manor Farm Country Park can be reached by leaving the M27 at Junction 8 heading towards Southampton and taking the third exit at the roundabout. After about a quarter of a mile turn right into Pylands Lane and follow this road into the park where parking can be found after about three quarters of a mile. Access to the park is normally available from 09.00am.Car Parking:
Parking will be signposted at the main car park and there will be additional parking on the left hand side just up from the main car park. Unfortunately the Park will be charging a car park fee of £2 per car this year. We have tried to negotiate that this be waived for the race but without success so runners should be encouraged to car share where possible in order to spread the cost. Please ask your runners not to park on the road as this will jeopardise our possible use of the Park in the future.Facilities:
Toilets will be available but there are no changing rooms or showers.Course:
The start will be on the track adjacent to the road which leads to Manor Farm. It is a 5 minute walk from the car park. The race is approximately a 4.5 mile circuit over woodland paths, grass tracks and forest gravel footpaths which are not really suitable for spikes although studded shoes would be practical. Runners will also encounter a few narrow gaps, short wooden bridges and steps. The Risk Assessment is below but will also be on display together with the UK Permit on the day. Runners must be aware that they take part at their own risk.Refreshments:
Refreshments will be provided at the QEII Centre located within the park at the customary charge of £1. As an added incentive to reduce parking costs we will be offering car drivers who have three or more runners in their car a free meal.
Results:
Results sheets will be distributed on the day. When completed please pass them to me at the finish or hand them to the person collecting refreshment money at the QEII Centre. The venue has been arranged courtesy of the park authorities. Whilst we do not run on any bridleways we will cross over several so please be aware of any horse riders who may be around. The park is open to members of the public so runners will undoubtedly encounter walkers with dogs, so again please be aware. Please ask your runners to show courtesy if they do encounter a non-runner on the course.
I hope you all enjoy the run.
RISK ASSESSMENT
The race is over a multi-terrain course of approximately 4.5 miles and is run on a variety of gravel tracks and woodland paths in open country and woods.
The start will be adjacent to the road which leads to Manor Farm and is a 5 minute walk from the main car park.
The paths and trails are open to the public so runners may encounter walkers with dogs and horse riders on the course. Please watch out for other users of the park and observe common courtesy when passing them.
Please obey any instructions and requests by marshals as you progress around the course.
In addition to marshals the route is marked with arrows and red and white tape. The general rule is not to move off the path/track you are on unless marshals or arrows direct otherwise.
The route crosses a road in two places and sections are on hard gravel paths which are not really suitable for spikes.
There are sections that are very muddy, some of which have large stones and flat rocks.
Some sections through the woods are slippery with cambers and exposed tree roots. You are advised to exercise extreme caution when running these sections.
During the second half of the course there are a number of places where you will encounter narrow gaps, wooden steps and small wooden bridges which are very slippery if wet.
Runners must be responsible for their own safety during the race and take part at their own risk.
