Matt Smith Wins Thrilling Bowlhead Green Handicap Chase

Haslemere Border AC's annual Bowlhead Green Handicap Chase took place on Friday evening in glorious summer sunshine, with members enjoying another memorable evening of racing in the beautiful surroundings of the Devil's Punch Bowl.

The first runner set off at 6.00 pm, with competitors starting at timed intervals based on their handicap. As always, the format produced an exciting finish, with a thrilling two-person chase developing over the closing stages. Steve King fought hard to hold off Matt Smith, but Matt timed his finish perfectly to cross the line first. Steve secured second place, while Karen Goddard marked her Bowlhead Green Handicap Chase debut with an excellent third-place finish.

The event was about much more than the racing. Club members and supporters cheered every runner home, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

Following the race, everyone gathered at The Punch Bowl to enjoy refreshments, the presentation of the Bowlhead Green Handicap Trophy and the opportunity to catch up with fellow members. With warm weather, friendly competition and great company, it was the perfect way to celebrate another successful club event.

A big thank you goes to everyone who took part, volunteered and supported the evening, helping make the Bowlhead Green Handicap Chase another memorable success in the HBAC calendar.
