Trial Sessions - Try Before You Join
Not sure if HBAC is right for you? Come along to our training sessions and try us out! We offer FREE trial sessions so you can experience our coaching, meet our members, and see if you'd like to join.
How It Works
Get in Touch
Contact us before your first visit so we can let our coaches know to expect you and answer any questions you might have. Email secretary@hbac.co.uk or speak to anyone wearing HBAC kit at a local parkrun.
Choose Your Session
Pick a training session that suits your ability level and schedule. We recommend Tuesday evening track sessions or Thursday group runs for first-timers.
Turn Up & Run
Arrive 10 minutes before the session starts, introduce yourself to the coach, and join in! Wear comfortable running kit and bring water.
Try Up to 3 Sessions
You're welcome to attend up to 3 free trial sessions before deciding whether to join. This gives you time to meet different members and try different types of training.
Join the Club
If you enjoy our club, download and complete the membership application form. You'll be registered with England Athletics and can start training as a full member.
Best Sessions for First-Timers
Tuesday Track Session
When: Tuesday 6:45 PM
Where: Woolmer Hill Sports Track
Good for: All abilities
Why: Coached intervals, multiple groups by pace, very welcoming
Thursday Group Run
When: Thursday 6:45 PM
Where: Woolmer Hill Car Park
Good for: Steady runners
Why: Social atmosphere, various distance options, good conversation

What to Expect
Your First Session
- A warm welcome from coaches and members
- Brief chat with the coach about your running experience and goals
- Assignment to an appropriate training group for your ability
- A structured training session with clear instructions
- Encouragement to work at your own pace - no pressure
- Opportunity to chat with other runners and ask questions
- Information about membership if you'd like to join
What to Bring
Essential:

- • Warm layers for before/after
- • Headtorch (winter evenings)
- • Hi-vis gear (road runs)
- • Towel and change of clothes
Common Questions
Do I need to be fast?
Absolutely not! We have members of all speeds from beginners to county-level athletes. Our sessions are structured to accommodate everyone, with multiple groups by pace.
I'm a complete beginner - will I keep up?
We have many members who started as complete beginners. Our coaches will place you in an appropriate group, and you can work at your own pace. Check out our Beginners Guide for more information.
How many trial sessions can I attend?
You're welcome to attend up to 3 trial sessions before deciding whether to join. This gives you a good feel for the club and different types of training.
Am I insured during trial sessions?
Trial sessions are covered by the club's general insurance. Once you join and register with England Athletics, you'll have full personal insurance coverage.
What if I can't make the suggested sessions?
We have training sessions most days of the week. Contact us to discuss which session would suit you best based on your ability and schedule.
Can my partner/friend come too?
Of course! Many people join with friends or partners. Just let us know when you get in touch so we're expecting both of you.
What Happens Next?
After your trial sessions:
- • No pressure or obligation to join
- • If you'd like to join, download and complete our membership application form
- • Membership is just £57/year (includes England Athletics registration)
- • You'll receive your member login details within 48 hours
- • You can order club kit through our online shop
- • You're immediately eligible to compete for the club
